Mustafi was out in the cold under Emery and Emery was totally correct in doing so. Mustafi was turning in wank performances pretty much every single week, but Arteta and Ljungberg both knew that they needed someone who could play the ball out from the back and Mustafi is brilliant at that, and he’s come on leaps and bounds under a head-coach who really seems to believe in him and his quality.

There’s still a hell of a lot that he needs to improve on and he still gives me heart attacks whenever you can see him going in for a tackle and how he keeps blaming other people for his own mistakes, but he has been very good of late. He really took charge today, seemed to have no issues bossing people around and his determination is the reason we even got the second goal, he should be really proud of how he’s playing at the moment.

He’s fully repaying his coach’s continued faith in him.
