David Luiz with xhaka has been the most improved players since Arteta has taken over. I’ve been really impressed by his performances and his stats back it up. He’s been defensively solid and maybe hasn’t contributed a huge amount of tackles and interceptions however that is an indication to our style of play being possession based and defending from the front. He’s also been reliable when needed to defend as he hasn’t been dribbled past and having 80% tackles success rate across the whole season.

It’s clear to see that he plays the most important role in our build up as he is main ball progreser with xhaka and I wouldn’t mind him being a regular for next season if he continues to perform, as Cb tend to decline much later in their career compared to players in other positions, he clearly has another season in him and the only thing that has declined from him game is his aerial ability, athleticism . I feel like next window we gotta find a quality partner for him as I don’t think Mari will be good enough for a regular starting spot, he’s looked promising but his athleticism is an issue especially in a league such as the Prem and Saliba will need potentially a season or at least 6 months to adapt and develop into the player that we need him to be.

If we are looking for Cb’s to partner Luiz I feel like we need someone who is dominate aerially, aggressive, athletic, physical defender, while also having ball playing ability to fit our system and to cover luiz’s shortcomings(athleticism, aerial ability)
