v. Leicester, 2015. : Gunners

Here’s Özil and Santi Cazorla playing a casual 50-meter one-two in the dying minutes of a 2015 game at the King Power. Despite the nonchalance, this was an important game for Arsenal. Our 5-2 win (pass #52, 5-2 win, get it?) ended both the Foxes’ unbeaten start to the season and Alexis Sanchez’s goal drought. The Chilean had scored 25 goals in 14/15 for the Gunners, but had failed to find the net in eight games across all competitions before this contest, where he went and scored a hat-trick. Özil was also lively; he had a pass in the buildup of 4 of the 5 goals, which began his insane streak of at least one goal or assist in 11 straight PL games.

More fun facts about this match:

  • The Puma 15/16 was an underrated away kit.

  • The PL leaders at the time were not us nor Leicester but Manchester United, who had taken 16 points from 7 games. Man City were on 15 points, while West Ham and Arsenal were tied for 3rd with 13.

  • Alexis Sanchez became the first and to this date only player to score hat-tricks in the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga.
