v. Sunderland, 2017. : Gunners

Great forward ball by Xhaka here (what an odd sentence…) and it was controlled beautifully by our friend Mesut. This goal took place in a 2-0 win on the penultimate match day of the 2016/17 season, which landed us one point behind Liverpool and three behind City heading into the final gameweek. Though a 10-man Arsenal managed to beat Everton 3-1 on May 21st, ‘Pool and City also won, meaning the Gunners were forced to settle for fifth.

Fun facts about this game:

  • Moyesy was managing Sunderland, and lost his 20th game vs. Wenger in all comps. lol.

  • Looking to better their goal difference, Arsenal managed 36 shots in this one—the most in any Premier League game since 2003.

  • Seeing as they only scored two, Jordan Pickford had, by all accounts, a brilliant game in goal for Sunderland. On their bench was former Arsenal backup Vito Mannone.
