3 transfer ideas even worse than Willian

Arsenal may be looking to add Willian on a free, which is just plain stupid. But here are three ideas that are even more stupid than that.

It was always going to happen like this. Arsenal was having too good of a stretch with transfer rumors. Thomas Partey started to look more realistic, nobody had been ruled out. Then, suddenly Dayot Upamecano looked less likely and now, the Willian rumor is back.

Even worse is the fact that Willian is supposedly being offered as a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, if he were to join Chelsea. Keep in mind that Willian is free.

Also, keep in mind that Willian plays a position that is so densely stocked with young talent that it would be a fool’s errand to block their path. Why would we want Willian when we could instead let Bukayo Saka or Gabriel Martinelli take over the reins? I’m still waiting for a good answer to that question. And I reckon I’ll be waiting for a bit longer since there isn’t a good answer.

I will say, however, that I have always feared and thus respected Willian. And I wouldn’t exactly be crying to see him on our side, rather than the other. But it’s still a bad idea. Not so bad, however, that he’s the worst idea.

Here are three ideas that are even worse.

3. Layvin Kurzawa

I just really don’t like that Mikel Arteta‘s first signing could be a complete nonfactor. How boring, how unproductive, how ridiculously counterintuitive. Right now, the Gunners have a lot of needs. Better yet, they have very specific needs. Leftback is so far from a need that I can’t even begin to see it on the list of potential fixes.

The last thing the Gunners need to do is create a new problem that needs fixing, and that’s what Kurzawa would mean. That we’ve sold Sead Kolasinac, which is unnecessary, and thus put a financial burden on replacing him. Again, unnecessary.

Avoid all of this. Just leave our stout fullback situation where it is, because it’s in a really good place.

Next up, No. 2.
