How to solve every problem without losing money

Arsenal’s summer transfer window could be huge, but in the essence of being economical, here is how we can solve every problem and still come out in the green.

Mikel Arteta‘s rumored “overhaul” could be the start of something fantastic at Arsenal. But the word “overhaul” has certain connotations that make it sound… expensive. After all to completely change the outlook of a club, you’ll have to bring in new guys, and new guys aren’t cheap.

But there are ways around losing crazy amounts of money, or losing any money at all. Hell, in the name of being economical for our American overlords, let’s outline a transfer plan that still sees the club gain money, despite completing the necessary overhaul.

As it stands, seven players can be sold to build up a £130m profit. And I’m being modest with sale prices too. I’m not expecting Mkhitaryan to actually go for £23m. Instead, what I see as the likely and necessary “overhaul” sales look like this:

Shkodran Mustafi—£15m

Henrikh Mkhitaryan—£10m

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Mesut Ozil—£10m

Mohamed Elneny—£5m

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang—£50m

Alexandre Lacazette—£30m

The grand total here is £130m. A pretty healthy return for one elite player that we would hate to lose and a bunch of people who probably need to be sold anyway. And keep in mind this doesn’t account for if we were to sell, say Sead Kolasinac for an additional £25m, or Ainsley Maitland-Niles for about the same.

Meanwhile, we just need three big signings to augment the youth options we already have, and those three big signings don’t even have to be huge. Here’s what I see as a solution summer:

Luka Jovic—£40m

Thomas Partey—£45

Jonathan Tah—£35m

Grand total? £120m. That’s right. We can buy three players of this caliber and still come out in the green. Now if you factor in potential sales of Kolasinac and Maitland-Niles, we could go out there and afford Dayot Upamecano as well, or bringing in Dani Ceballos or someone similar.

Sure, selling Aubameyang sucks, but with guys like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli eager to get more involved, I think that dread would subside pretty quickly.

It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to be effective. Just like what Liverpool have done over there. Even with big transfers, they still managed to balance it out with sales as well.
