It’s not too early to be excited about Filip Marchwinski

Arsenal have been heavily linked to Polish wonderkid Filip Marchwinski. He’s not even signed yet, but is it too early to be excited about him?

I’ll admit that I know nothing about Filip Marchwinski. Well, that’s not true. I know that he’s 18-years-old, that he’s at the football factory of Lech Poznan, that he’s a striker but can also play in an attacking midfield role. He’s Polish, and now, apparently, he’s ready to come to Arsenal on a trial.

His stats aren’t remarkable, but he’s only made about 50 career appearances as a youngster. So there’s not much to report back here.

Yet, the obvious parallel to Robert Lewandowski or even Arkadiusz Milik, Gooners around the world are already getting excited. And I’m here to tell you that this is symptomatic of how the modern state of the club has lent itself to a belief in just about anyone that the club pursues.

You know why? Because it wasn’t all that long ago that I began an article by saying something along the lines of, “I’ll admit that I know nothing about Gabriel Martinelli…”

More from Pain in the Arsenal

What I did know about him was that he was 18, Brazilian, an attacker, and from the football factory of Brazil.

Now, just a few months later, I can tell you all about Martinelli. He’s one of the best young players in the world, he’s one of our most reliable goal producers, he plays directly, fearlessly, and has the finishing ability of a seasoned veteran. He is the kind of guy that can drive an attack on his own (just ask Chelsea) or ebb and flow with his teammates.

Gabriel Martinelli is going to be a legend. He stated he wants to be a legend and with the kind of talent he has, the only thing he needs now is more time on the pitch. In just one year he has become universally recognizable and he has never before played anywhere near the top competitions of world football. He spent his young career in Brazil and with his first major step up, he flourished.

If not for superstars in his way, he would be starting every single match these days and not struggling in the least to keep up.

So what do I know about Filip Marchwinski? I know enough. I know that if the honchos at Arsenal are interested in him, then he could be the next.
