Arsenal composed passing and build up. Not that long ago too : Gunners


Okay I’ll play devil’s advocate on this one: the games changed so much, its not necessarily fair to make direct comparisons to players from 10 yrs ago. Just look at the awful attempt at pressing from Hull in this clip. Every man for himself approach, with every defending playee waiting for the Arsenal player in front of him to get the ball before closing him down, but completely stationary otherwise. Compare this with the structural team pressing expected from even midtable teams nowadays.

Additionally, it’s not like we necessarily carved out chances. Any team can sit back and surrender possession like Hull are doing here, there’s no threat giving Arsenal possession to pass between the defenders and deeper midfielders.
