v. Watford, 2015. : Gunners

Today’s post is quite late (hope you didn’t miss it too much), but it’s also deft little touch from our boy during the Gunners’ 3-0 win at Vicarage Road. You can tell Özil notices Giroud in his periphery as he runs quickly across the ball, but he puts his head down slyly as if planning something more direct. Instead of whacking it across goal, though, he manages to fool the defense and slice the ball directly into the feet of Olivier, who cooly puts the pass away. It’s clever stuff.

Fun facts about this match:

  • Quique Sanchez Flores was serving his first stint as Watford manager.

  • Özil notched six key passes and two assists. That form really was something else.

  • Aaron Ramsey scored his first goal of the season, after failing to net with his first 26 (inc. blocked) attempts.
