Both Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Matteo Guendouzi have been linked with an Arsenal exit. Here are three players the club should not sell… yet.

Arsenal have plenty of potential sale candidates this summer. Some are more obvious — and more helpful — than others. But that does not mean that the club will necessarily sell the best players to help progress the squad. In fact, this weekend, The Athletic reported two concerning developments regarding two key squad players.

With that in mind, here are three players who the Gunners should not sell… yet.

Arsenal, Calum Chambers

3. Calum Chambers

It was all beginning to come up trumps for Calum Chambers. After waiting years for a run of starts at centre-back in north London, Chambers had enjoyed an encouraging first half of the season under Unai Emery before being trusted by Mikel Arteta to partner David Luiz at centre-back. Then, catastrophe.

Chambers ruptured his ACL in Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in late-December. Incidentally, he was superb for 20 minutes in that match. Chambers will miss the remainder of the season and might not return for the 2020/21 season either. Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin have both taken north of a year to return to full fitness following the same injury.

However, offloading Chambers in this state is futile. Arsenal will not get a viable fee for an injured player and the good form he showed in the first half of the season proves that he can still be a viable depth option across the backline and even in defensive midfield if required. Chambers still has value, more value than he would provide in the transfer market.
