Arsenal is toying with the idea of selling Lucas Torreira again and at this point, it’s best to just get it over with. Here are 3 reasons why.

Lucas Torreira was supposed to be the defensive midfielder Arsenal had been waiting about a decade to get. Immediately upon arrival, he was compared to N’Golo Kante for his size, tenacity, and ball-winning abilities.

Yet less than a year into his stay at the club, there was talk that he would be leaving to go back to Serie A. Rumors tied him to AC Milan, with other clubs potentially interested as well and it all came down to Torreira being unsettled. Acclimating to life in London wasn’t easy.

Matters weren’t helped by Unai Emery misusing Torreira. He was asking the new midfielder to play an all-purpose role that he just wasn’t ready to do. It left the midfield exposed defensively while still suffering offensively and ever since Mikel Arteta has taken over, little has changed.

Now, Torreira is linked to an exit again and this time, it’s best to just rip off the band-aid and get it over with. Here are three reasons to sell Lucas Torreira, starting with No. 3.

3. He just doesn’t like it here

As alluded to earlier, the biggest red flag for Torreira is the fact that after two years, there’s still no reason to believe that he likes it any more than he did when he first arrived. And he hated it when he first arrived. Even when the Gunners convinced him to stay, he made the point that he would have to learn and fight to adjust to the move.

Here we are, months later, and he is still looking for an exit, responding positively to rumors of leaving, and not gelling at the club.

Sure, we want this relationship to work, but it clearly isn’t. If Torreira doesn’t like it here that much, just cut him loose and let him go somewhere where he can be happy and feel at home. Don’t try to force it. Find someone who will like it here.

On to No. 2.
