v. Stoke, 2018. : Gunners
It’s always nice to beat Stoke 3-0, although the Gunners left it late here. Two penalties and one corner-kick goal in the last 15 minutes served as a nice ending to a pretty dry game. I like to think this match was the start of the Laca-Auba bromance, as Auba gave up a chance for a hat-trick so that Laca could take the second penalty.
This pass from Özil set Auba free beautifully around the 70th-minute mark. Sorry for the strange crop and colors; the pass isn’t featured in any highlight video I could find (it was wrongfully called offside, I think), so I had to use this strange clip I found who-knows-where.
Fun facts about this match:
-
Xherdan Shaqiri hit the post from a corner at one point.
-
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang dedicated his 2 goals to his late grandmother, Marina, whose name he had dyed in his hair.
-
Arsenal have won their past 16 home matches against Stoke in all competitions, a run stretching back to August 1981.
-
The Gunners scored two penalties in a Premier League game for the first time since December 2012 (v West Brom).
