We need to completely rebuild our midfield, and if we lose Torreira we’ll definitely need a replacement. Our first team midfield that’s signed going into next year is Ozil, Torreira, Willock, AMN, Guendo, Xhaka, Elneny. Ozil doesn’t play much, Guendo might be gone. That leaves us with Torreira, Willock, AMN, Xhaka, Elneny. Of these, I’d say only 2 have proven first team quality, and we’d want at least 5 quality CMs if we’re going to actually compete for things. So we need to buy a minimum of 3 CMs, 2 if Ceballos comes back, and even then we’re not terribly deep.

If you get Partey then I guess you just need to find a quality CAM, unless you’re switching to a 3-4-3 with wingbacks. If that’s the case then us resigning Luiz and maybe keeping Mustafi/Sokratis makes sense since we’ll need numbers back there. We do have 6 senior CBs (7 with Saliba), though not necessarily the quality we’d want. So we can either roll with a back 3 longer, or sell off some CBs to help fund CM investment.
