Arsenal will be looking for a midfield injection this summer, and while Thomas Partey and Dani Ceballos are options, Marcel Sabitzer is the gold standard.
Arsenal‘s midfield is really close to being as close to perfect as you can possibly be. With Granit Xhaka, we have the general. With Dani Ceballos, we have the pivot. But filling in the extra slot, and even retaining Ceballos, are big-time questions, and it’s lead to some speculation as to who would be the perfect complement to this midfield.
Thomas Partey is leading the charge. With a release clause of £45m, Partey would cost exactly that, he’s got a tremendous resume and he’s a renowned talent. But is he the perfect option? No. Marcel Sabitzer from RB Leipzig is the perfect option.
In fact, he’s so much better than every other potential option that I’m going to one-up my usual “3 reasons blah blah blah” and up it to five reasons. Because I could go all day about why we need Sabitzer. If you think I’m unbearable when it comes to Granit Xhaka, just wait until we get Sabitzer. It’s double trouble from me.
And so, without any more of me clearing my throat. Here are five reasons why Marcel Sabitzer is actually the midfielder we’re looking for, and not anyone else. We start with No. 5.
5. He eats Spurs
Any time someone is coming from another league, a good barometer of how ready he is is how well he performs in European Leagues. Sabitzer is a beast in Europe. Most recently, he scored two goals against our dear Spurs to knock them out of the Champions League.
Overall, he’s always been a killer European player. This year he has four goals and two assists in seven appearances in the Champions League. Last time he was in the Champions League—his very first time—he managed two assists in under 400 minutes of play.
The man knows how to compete at the highest level. If there is a better barometer of Premier League readiness, I don’t know it.
On to No. 4.
